Flying to the United States is kinda exciting but also stressful. There’s so much to think about, like flights, layovers, connecting flights, and making sure you don’t get lost in a new place. Since I’m moving from Davao to the USA, I realized having the right kind of apps on my phone makes everything way easier. They’re like tiny helpers in your pocket so you don’t panic every time something changes.
United Airlines App
Since I’m flying United Airlines, their app is a must. I can check in, get my boarding passes, track my flight, and even see if there are delays. I hate printing stuff or waiting in line so having everything on my phone is a relief. You can even change seats or add baggage through the app which is super convenient

Klook eSIM App
I don’t wanna rely on public Wi-Fi during my layover in California so I got Klook’s eSIM. It’s under AT&T and I got a three-day plan for Php 423 which covers my layover and connecting flight to Missouri. It’s super easy to set up, you scan a QR code and it’s ready. No roaming fees and fast internet right when I land. Makes me feel less stressed already.
Google Maps
Even if you’re not driving, airports are huge and new cities can be confusing. Google Maps is great for real-time directions and transport options. I like to plan my first day too, like finding a grocery store or figuring out how to get to my temporary place. Small things like this save a lot of stress.
Wise
I’ll be using Wise to send money back home and also hold some pocket money for my first month in the US. It’s easy to track balances and send remittances without going to a bank.
Communication Apps
WhatsApp, Messenger, or Telegram are important to stay in touch with family. I’ll be updating my mom, letting her know I landed safely, and coordinating a few things in the US. Makes you feel less alone in a new country.
Food and Delivery Apps
First few days are exhausting so food apps like Uber Eats, DoorDash, or Grubhub are lifesavers. You can check restaurants in advance or just get food delivered when you’re tired after a long flight.
Notes and Document Storage Apps
Finally, because I have a 100 GB subscription, I store all vital docs such as passport scans, visa copies, tickets, and insurance information on the Google Drive App. Losing paper copies is stressful, having them on your phone is a big relief, especially during immigration or when opening a bank account.
Flights and layovers are stressful enough, at least you can control connectivity, money, directions, and communication. For me, prepping apps ahead of time is like packing a digital backpack. It’s a small thing but makes a huge difference when arriving in a new country for the first time.
